Materials
Materials used for making down accessories and clothes should comprise with several crucial parameters. It is important for them to breathe, to hold the down well, to be windproof and resistant to mechanical damage. Additionally they should be reducible to smaller sizes (for packing) and, in the same time, be maximally springy (the fabric mustn’t crash the down with its own weight).

It is very important as well that the used materials ensure letting the moisture out - an average man sweats out up to a liter of water during one night, and the water in some way has to escape the sleeping bag or the jacket. With poor quality fabrics the transport of moisture is limited and the steam is condensed inside the insulating layer. The product looses then its insulating qualities, soaks and freezes. Our products, thanks to the use of down and fabrics with capillary qualities, transport the moisture fast to its external surface.

Taking into account high levels of above parameters and clients’ requirements we use such fabrics as:

MicroDry (60 gr/m2)

It is one of the lightest breathing waterproof fabrics available right now on the market. The external layer made of MicroDry proves itself well everywhere where it can go into contact with condensation or rain (it should also be remembered that down’s insulating qualities dwindle when it is moisturized). MicroDry is waterproof (8,000 mm of water column), breathing (8,000 grams of steam/m2/24h) and washing resistant. We use it mostly for making products in their Dry version

Q15 (28gr/m2)

It is made of threads of only 15den thickness. Thanks to that it provides the best weight to resilience ratio in this class of fabrics and guarantees sufficient resistance even in camp conditions. It is claimed that its use for making down products is a true revolution.

The total weight of a product made of Q15 is to 50% lower in comparison to the product made of the standard ripstop type nylon (it is more than 200g in a sleeping bag and 100g in an average jacket). Additionally, by using this type of fabric it is possible to reduce the volume of a product even up to 50%. What is significant, Q15 – despite its small thickness – is resistant to tearing (only 25% difference in comparison with very strong ripstop type fabrics). Q15 fabric is very soft and ensures maintaining maximal springiness of the down filling. Its external surface is protected against moisture absorption with DWR+ (Durable Water Repellent) technology. We use the fabric mainly for the external layers of our products.

P20

It is a light fabric (40g/m2), very densely woven. It is made of threads of 20 den thickness, with a very soft finishing which sucks moisture out of the body surface. We use it for the internal layers of our products.

Down

Down is still the best insulator available. Special processing makes it suitable for people with allergies. It is light, extremely compressible and breathing.

The Essentials parameter here is the springiness of down – it creates the insulating space. The springiness is measured by checking the volume of a stated amount of down, and precisely how many cubic inches an ounce of down occupies in a standard measuring cylinder. The higher it is the better is the class of the down. The measurement is taken in unit called cui (cubic inch).

Types of down in Yet products

In YET products we use down of 700 and 860 cui springiness.

700 cui

It is a mixture of high quality grey downs of northern variety of ducks and geese. This down ensures excellent filling and the highest weight-to-insulation ratio. We use it in our standard products.

860 cui

It is a down of most carefully chosen white gees, very difficult to obtain. We use it for our luxury products, which are adjusted to extreme conditions. Products filled with this type of down are meant for our most demanding clients. The use of 860 cui down may reduce the weight of the product (the level of the obtained insulation will be the same but the product will be lighter) or make the product warmer (in comparison to a product filled with the same amount of 700 cui down).

The same jacket or sleeping bag can be filled with 700 CUI as well as 860 CUI down without losing any of its utility value.
